Gluten-free Greece: a country full of beautiful nature, a rich culture, special history, and a delicious (gluten-free) cuisine. Greece is one of the top 10 most popular vacation destinations in Europe for the Dutch. This is reflected in the number of messages and questions that I receive via the contact form about gluten-free Greece and the possibilities.
Greece offers everything for all types of tourists. Long coastlines with beautiful beaches and many well-known Greek islands offer sun, sea, and beach fans plenty of options for lazing on the beach and baking. The wonderful climate also almost always guarantees good weather which makes it ideal for a sun, sea, and beach vacation.
For the culture vultures among us, Greece is a very suitable option as a vacation destination. Greece has a very rich history whose sports can still be seen in modern life. Ancient Greece has had a lot of influence on the world as we know it. Think of the birth of democracy, the Olympic Games, or the subject of philosophy. Because of this, there are very many archaeological sites where churches, buildings, and monuments from ancient Greece can still be admired.
Gluten-free in Greece
Finally, the food is perhaps one of the most important reasons to go to Greece. At least, food is always a very important factor for me though. Fortunately, Greece is also known for its delicious cuisine. Gluten-free Greece also offers plenty of options for us. The biggest advantage is that Greek cuisine consists of fresh food. Many dishes are freshly prepared with meat, vegetables, and fruit as the main focus. As a result, most dishes are often gluten-free by themselves.
Many restaurants and hotels in Greece are familiar with celiac disease and the gluten-free preparation of meals. For Greece, as for other countries, a gluten-free translation is also available in Greek. In addition, it is always your responsibility. So do you want to be sure? Send a message to the hotel or restaurant so that you know what to expect.
Gluten-free Greece has a lot to offer. The glorious weather, rich culture, and delicious food make it a great place to spend time in this beautiful country by the Mediterranean, Ionian, and Aegean seas. As mentioned earlier, there are several hotels where that can take into account gluten-free dietary needs. There are also a few hotels where you can book an all-inclusive gluten-free vacation. Gluten-free food in Greece
Eating gluten free in Greece is fine if you are careful and always contact the hotel or restaurant in advance. Also in most major cities, you will find organic/biological supermarkets where they sell gluten-free food for when you are staying in an apartment, for example. As in any country, I always recommend carrying a Greek and/or English dietary translation in your pocket so you can always show it.
Finally, for your peace of mind, you can search for reviews online. I would mainly search in English because you will get many more experiences from various travelers who have also experienced gluten-free Greek food during their vacation.
*Note: I personally always recommend contacting each hotel in advance. That way, the hotel can make any preparations and you won’t be in for any surprises!
